Should I Upgrade My Network Board?

My system comprises Intel 2 quad 6600 ,radeon hd3870 graphics board ,soundblaster xfi gamer pro sound board 4 Gig Ram and 1.5 terabyte hard disk My internet connection is via an on board Realtek RTL8168 Gigabyte ethernet chip on my motherboard My question is will I get better performace if I install a seperate Network Pcb and then suggestions on a good board to use would be appreciated

   Hi
   Nice Spec now i have the same as you and you also have a very good port on your board. Now you already have a gigibit compatible port, through this one so purchasing a separate card would have no affect on your speed of your broadband or internet downloads.
   Right things to find out if your network is gigabit.
   First check your modem/router if it has gigabit compatibility ports. Most well known brands like netgear and linksys currently have. So data transfer between your pc and the router will be quick. You should not need to change anything on the software side of your pc if your router is. The realtek chip sets are auto sensing.
   Another thing you could look into is changing your line providers. There are loads of companies now that offer high speeds like 24MB/s like be there.com. If your on a slow line and your not getting any performance that you can see is quick cancel and swap.
   If you downloading torrents or file from sites or itunes try opening ports on your router. This will rapidly increase downloading and uploading speeds.
   There is no need to upgrade your network card you will be wasting another slot in your case for something you could do with like extra USB slots, TV card, another graphics card.
   You don’t need one just keep your pc up to date.
   You can spend as much you want on a network card but will not make any difference compared to the one which is on-board. Sounds like to me you haven’t owned your pc long enough to start changing components.

   Gigabyte ethernet is the fastest board you can get for you. I’m not sure what you’re looking for but if you mean internet speeds you will never even use 100Mbs of the Gigabit internet.
   If you mean networking it still is the fastest you can get.
