soldering involves heat, heat has some deteriorating effect on electronic devices, especially when using lead free solder where the required temp profile is higher. electronics assy nowadays are getting denser thus a higher temperature is needed to compensate the high thermal mass. Is anyone out there who is studying on a alternate material that can have the same electrical and mechanical strength of solder without using heat?

I heared that laser can be used for soldering. As it just heat the pad instead of whole component, there is no much side effect on the component. But this method is not suitable for mass production.

i’ve heard of ultrasonic welding. i’m not sure if it can be applied to sensitive components.
